The number one reason we would choose not to support a charity is because of the discrepancy between the money given and the money actually spent on its intended purpose. We don't believe the discrepancy exists due to poor intentions, we believe it exists because in many cases charities are started by well meaning people who lack the project management skills to run the projects effectively.
After making a trip to see the work of Global Support Association Inc. in Laos, which is surprisingly close to home, we were blown away by how much had been achieved in so little time and on such a small budget. There are two things that make Global Support so effective in producing results.
Firstly, it's headed by people with many years of experience running successful businesses and outstanding project management skills.
Secondly because they've spent many years living in the types of communities they are seeking to help and it's clear they have a deep understanding of what these communities actually need to thrive. We learned a big lesson when they explained how many people go to countries like Laos to volunteer their time and while they are there they do a whole bunch of things that make them feel good but leave no lasting, sustainable benefit to the community.
After seeing first hand how Global Support operate we have total confidence our contributions will be well spent. More importantly, not just on doing good deeds but on creating long lasting, sustainable solutions that give the local people the tools, knowledge and skills to help themselves. We feel good knowing our contributions will deliver a result disproportionate to the amount we give.
