LUV Project - Help for Disabled
We are currently collecting through our local volunteers while they carry out their normal duties - a list of people who are physically disabled in someway in isolated villages. This could be through bomb explosions, accidents or even birth defects and may be a candidate for help. We are not looking for poor people - majority of people are poor in Laos. Help will be in the form of minimal costs to Global Support Association Inc in matching candidates with government agencies and institutions that can provide support at little to no cost to the candidate. Global Support Association Inc will provide transport, food and initial medical assessment to get candidates to a suitable facility and support.
At this point, we can't help everyone as this is not our major function, so it is important that we choose those who could gain the most benefit from help - for example
While the list is not exhaustive or exclusive - it gives some idea of looking at a sustainability factor in offering help.
Below are photos of some disabled people. Some will not be candidates for help and some will. Some we are already in the process of looking to see if any help can be done and the options. One of our tasks on this next trip is to assess the most probable of success, the most needy with the best outcome and the most probable that will be able to complete their part of the program - hard work and get back some independence and self esteem into their lives.
At this point, we can't help everyone as this is not our major function, so it is important that we choose those who could gain the most benefit from help - for example
- A man or woman needing to get back to work to support a family
- Leverage - a little help going a long way
- Someone that is possible to help - having the right attitude
- Someone that can't work or function normally because of that disability
- Someone who requires care from someone else
- A child who needs to attend school
- A person who wants help and has good family support
While the list is not exhaustive or exclusive - it gives some idea of looking at a sustainability factor in offering help.
